Treat proof of completion and marketing permission as separate decisions. A client may agree to receive private photos without allowing public use. Temple, practitioner and bystander consent also matter, and some sacred moments should not be recorded.
Before the ceremony
Write down what will be captured, who can appear, how files will be delivered and how long they will be retained, then confirm the media format after the temple approves photography.
Protecting the client
Use initials or broad regions rather than full names when a public record is approved. Blur faces or identifying documents where needed and avoid exposing intimate personal requests.
Respecting the temple
Payment does not buy unrestricted filming rights. The temple controls access, and participants should put the ceremony ahead of content production.
Four separate permissions
- The temple permits photography in that area;
- the monk or responsible person agrees to appear;
- the client agrees to a private completion record;
- the client separately agrees to publication on a website, social platform or advertisement.
Private delivery is not marketing consent. Public consent should identify channels, duration, name use and whether it may be withdrawn.
Delivery and retention
Use a verified private chat or file channel and check the recipient before sending. Agree how long files are retained, whether backups exist and when they will be deleted. Material involving children, IDs, addresses, health or intimate relationship details requires particular care.
Anonymising a public note
Use only a broad region, service type and coordination steps. Remove exact dates, names, faces, chats and unrelated visitors. A client’s consent cannot authorise exposure of a third party who did not agree.
When photography is not permitted
Use a permitted offering photograph, an exterior image or written completion confirmation. Evidence should never be created by breaking temple rules.
